Become a 20% developer

An average developer spends $4.50 on coffee every day. In return, they get 4 hours of caffeinated energy + stress + possible insomnia.

However, only 20% of the developers spend $5 on a relevant newsletter monthly. In return, they support a happy writer, receive tech content, and in our case, receive a handwritten letter every 6 months.

Count me in

You guessed it right, this newsletter is trying to convince you to get a paid subscription. And wait, don’t close the tab. I have some things to explain before you judge it.

What happens to your money?

Your contributions don’t go to waste. For example, one subscriber spent $50 for a yearly subscription. From that $50,

  • The author receives approximately $42 after the fees.

  • $13.99 for the domain and hosting of dev encyclopedia (apparently .dev domains are a bit expensive), an open-source resource used by thousands of developers.

  • $5.60 goes for postal charges (for the handwritten letter from the author, usually once every 6 months)

  • The remaining $23.41 goes to the author (i.e. groceries, kinder joy eggs, and whatnot).

What do you get in return?

Monthly subscription: $5/month

  • An inside look at tools we use (like ChatGPT, or DeepSeek), once a month.

  • A few handbooks for various fields of programming: data cleaning, Git commands, and etc.

  • If you stay active for 6+ months (active, not just paid), a handwritten letter from the author (spoiler: my handwriting is really bad).

Annual subscription: $50/year ($4.17/month)

  • Everything in a Monthly subscription + 17% cheaper.

Chief Doodle Officer (CDO) plan: $200/year

  • This is a founding member plan with a fancy title (and of course, you can put it up on LinkedIn)

  • A personalized hand-drawn doodle of a headshot + a shout-out (on the official web, and the newsletter).
